What is Hellenistic Astrology?

Hellenistic astrology is a tradition of astrology that was developed in the late 4th century BCE and was practiced in the ancient world, particularly in the Mediterranean region. It is based on the belief that the positions and movements of celestial bodies, such as the sun, moon, and planets, have an influence on human affairs and the natural world.

In this tradition, astrologers would cast horoscopes, which are astrological charts that depict the positions of the celestial bodies at a specific moment, usually the moment of a person's birth, and use them to make predictions and give advice about various aspects of life, such as health, love, and career.

This tradition of astrology was heavily influenced by the ideas of the ancient Greek philosophers and was also deeply intertwined with the belief in fate and the divine. Though it’s important to mention that there is always a difference between fate and free will.

I’ve been trained in Hellenistic traditions, and I utilize tropical astrology.

Tropical astrology is a type of astrology that is based on the seasonal cycles of the earth, specifically the position of the sun relative to the equinoxes and solstices.

In tropical astrology, the zodiac is divided into twelve equal parts, known as the zodiac signs, which are based on the position of the sun at the time of the vernal equinox (around March 21st). This starts with Aries, the first zodiac at the earliest part of spring.

I also utilize the whole sign house system for all of my readings. The whole sign house system is a method of determining the positions of the planets in an astrological chart, also known as a horoscope. In this system, the astrological chart is divided into twelve equal parts, called houses, which correspond to different areas of life such as career, relationships, health, etc. The cusp or the starting point of each of these houses is determined by the sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the time of a person's birth. This is also called the "Ascendant" or "Rising Sign".

In the whole sign house system, the planets are placed in the houses based on the sign they are in, regardless of their exact degree or position within that sign. This is in contrast to other house systems that take into account the exact degree of a planet's position within a sign, which can result in a different house placement for a planet.

The whole sign house system is considered by some astrologers to be the oldest and most traditional method of house division and is still used by many astrologers today.
